The Enterprise market type is focused on internal IT needs. For enterprises, ZTP is a tool for improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing business agility. The use cases are typically SD-WAN, campus LAN/WLAN deployments, and private data center automation. The Service Provider market type is focused on telecommunication companies, cable operators, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs). For them, ZTP is a critical tool for streamlining their core business: delivering services to their customers. They use ZTP to rapidly deploy customer-premises equipment (CPE) for services like business internet, managed VPN, and managed Wi-Fi. For service providers, ZTP directly translates into faster revenue recognition and a better customer onboarding experience, making it a key competitive differentiator.

By Management Architecture: Cloud-Managed vs. On-Premise Managed

Finally, the market can be segmented by the architecture of the management platform that orchestrates the ZTP process. The Cloud-Managed type is the modern and dominant approach. In this model, the network management platform is a multi-tenant SaaS application hosted by the network vendor. New devices connect directly to this public cloud service to be provisioned. This model, championed by vendors like Cisco Meraki and Aruba Central, offers maximum simplicity, scalability, and accessibility. The On-Premise Managed type represents a more traditional approach. In this model, the organization runs its own dedicated network management controller software on servers within its own data center. New devices are configured to "phone home" to this private, on-premise controller. This model is often preferred by organizations with very strict data residency or security requirements (like government agencies or financial institutions) who want to maintain complete control over their management infrastructure. A third, Hybrid approach also exists, where some management functions might run in the cloud while others remain on-premise, offering a balance between the two models.
